Savinova Washes 800m Gold Medal From Her Hand, CAS Finds Guilty In Doping

Former London Olympics (2012) 800m Gold Medalist, the Russian athlete Mariya Savinova was let go off her gold medal on Friday, after the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) found her guilty.

Mariya has been imposed upon a long 4-year ban , CAS reasoned out that she had used banned performance enhancing drugs which falls under unfair means.On the basis of clear evidence, including the evidence derived from her biological passport, Mariya Savinova-Farnosova is found to have been engaged in using doping from 26 July 2010 through to 19 August 2013,” CAS said.

Caster Semenya, African athlete is the next most probable candidate to get Gold in both Summer 2012 Olympics & 2011 World Championships.

Details Of The Ban On Mariya

  • Four Year Ban Starts From Aug. 24, 2015.
  • CAS disqualifies all of the Savinova’s results from July 26, 2010, to Aug. 19, 2013.
  • She loses 2011 World Championships Gold, 2013 World Silver & 2010 European Gold.
  • She has 45 days to consider whether to appeal to CAS decision or not.

World Athletics Federation IAFF, initiated the case against Mariya, which has also maintained a ban on Russian track and field athletes over the country’s doping affair.

Almost the entire track and field team of Russia was banned from competing at the Rio 2016 Olympics. More than 100 athletes have so far tested positive in re-tests of samples taken during the London and Beijing 2008 Olympics conducted by the International Olympic Committee. Russia has the most positive re-tests per nation.
