India Wins 2nd Straight T20 World Cup For Blind Titles, Defeats Pakistan

India defended their title at T20 World Cup for the Blind against Pakistan. This was India’s second straight title, as they defeated the arch-rival and their opponent Pakistan by impressive nine wickets here at the M.Chinnaswamy Stadium Bangalore on Sunday.

India revenged their loss against Pakistan in the League matches by winning in the Finals, India won 8 out of 9 League matches while Pakistan won all 9 out of 9 matches including the victory against India.

Pakistan won the toss and opted to bat first, with the opener Badar Munir’s power packed performance of 57 runs in just 37 balls hitting eight fours and one six, they managed to post on the scoreboard a total of 197/8 in 20 overs. With opening partner Muhammad Jamil (24), Munir led them to a good start with 58 runs in 5.2 overs.

For India, Opener  Prakash Jayaramaiah scored a brilliant inning of 99 runs, missing century with just one run. With his opening partner and captain Ajay Kumar Reddy (43), he added 110 runs for the first wicket. Ketan Patel, who came in at no 3, was retired hurt for 26 but Jayaramaiah continued his attack on the Pakistan bowlers finishing with 15 fours in his 60-ball 99.

None of the Pakistan bowlers could manage to send back any Indian batsmen back to the pavilion.

For his outstanding innings, Jayaramaiah was adjudged as man of the match while Munir was given the man of the series award for his 570 runs in the tournament.

Vijay Goel, Sports Minister congratulated the Indian team for winning T20 World Cup for Blind for the second successive edition after defeating arch-rivals Pakistan in the final at Bengaluru. Goel said that the blind cricket team has added another chapter of glory in history of Indian sports.
“After success of Para Athletes at Rio Paralympics 2016, Indian team for blind cricket has added another chapter of glory in history of Indian sports by retaining T20 World Cup,” Goel said in a statement.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi also congratulated the  Indian team. “Delighted that India won the Blind T20 World Cup. Congratulations to the team. India is proud of their accomplishment,” Modi tweeted.

Brief Score: India 200/1 (Prakash Jayaramaiah 99*, Ajay Kumar Reddy 43) beat Pakistan 197/8 (Badar Munir 57, Muhammad Jamil 24; Ketan Patel 2/29, Jaffar Iqbal 2/33) by nine wickets.
