India’s top badminton players, PV Sindhu & Saina Nehwal won’t be part of the Indian Contingent for the Asian Cup Mixed Team Championship 2017.

The Championship starts today in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. Both the star players were a part of the Indian Squad initially, but due to regular & hectic schedule in the near future including the All-England Championship in the next month, their names were called off.

After the rollback of the names of both the senior women players Saina & Sindhu , the Indian challenge now solely depends on HS Pranoy & Sameer Verma.

“The absence of Saina and Sindhu will obviously affect our chances but I think it’s a great chance for the youngsters to prove themselves,” Pranoy, who recently won the Swiss Open, said. “We have a good chance against Singapore but Korea looks a bit tough though. But I guess we should win against Singapore and try to qualify for quarters,” Prannoy added.

Young Tanvi Lad and  the newly-crowned national champion and Polish Open winner Rituparna Das would have the responsibility on their shoulders.

India are clubbed in Group D along with Korea and Singapore in the tournament. Asian giants like China, Malaysia, Japan, Indonesia and Thailand are also in the fray.
